Franklin, TN Family Photographer | A Morning with the Rains Family
I first filmed and photographed The Rains family 4 years ago, when their daughter was a newborn. It was a beautiful film.
Being asked to film them again, was a true honor. I love my clients dearly and am blessed that pretty much all of them hire me repeatedly, most of them annually!
For this film, we captured their beautiful family right now with a 4 year old. Mary Patton loves baking cookies and swinging on her swing set in the backyard. She and daddy love having tea parties and she loves jumping on daddy.
There were so many beautiful moments between this family. From giggles to quiet snuggles, it was a beautiful morning. She loves reading books, jumping on her bed and telling stories in her southern accent (which was entertaining to capture!)
When I was editing their film, I wanted to tell the story of the joy Mary Patton emits as well as the wild 4 year old she is at times. Their family connection was evident. I hope they treasure this film and the photos for years to come.
You can hire me for a family film here.

Nashville Family Photographer | Why Video Matters
How and Why I began making filmsIt's funny to me because my why was discovered in hindsight. Like my soul always knew and when I look back, the evidence was there. First, lets talk about my childhood proof that I would become a photographer.... I ALWAYS had a disposable camera. and was always the one taking photos and couldn't wait to have them developed. That part isn't too special, but it is part of my journey. Then at the age of 25, my mother died. No only that, but I last saw her on my wedding day. Everyone says we should live today as if it is our last, but I actually LIVED that. and the sad part is that this was before wedding videography was a thing - by only a few years. Someone, ironically last minute took some footage with their camcorder. I saved the CD for years and left it tucked in its sleeve. But it got damaged still and doesn't work.Am I glad I have the photos? Absolutely. But I would probably trade those in a heartbeat for video. I mean photos just DONT compare to her movements, her expressions, her laughter.... her live smile. How my world shifted from Newborn Posing to FilmsWhen I started in the photography world, I didn't know myself. Not my true self, my genuine self. I fell in love with newborn posing, because I have always loved babies. It was easy because ALL I had to do was follow a list of instructions, copy other's work and create my own from that. There wasn't much art in it at all. Not true creativity that comes from within. As my children grew, something began to shift in me. I didn't know what it was at the time, I only understand it in hindsight. I was changing. I was evolving as a person. Discovering the real me. I stopped posing newborns and shifted into lifestyle photography, but even that was leaving me restless. I eventually took a big hiatus. I needed to take a break and step away and find myself again - as a person, a mother, and as an artist.Come to find out, I was a creative my entire life. and never knew it. I was the child who stood out in School. I never fit in and had an eclectic group of friends. I was a creative being shoved into a box and never quite fitting. I attended a photography workshop in 2014, where she told me I was a creative - and I recall being shocked - my jaw dropped! It took a few years to figure this out. But this workshop was pivotal in my discovery. Then in 2017, I saw the first family film created by Courtney Holmes in AU. I haven't been the same since. She was coming to Nashville to teach a filming life workshop and I hired her to film my family. All films come with photos as well. I received the photos and sobbed. I have NEVER sobbed over my family's photos. But I realized the image of my Greyson putting his shoes on in the silliest way, would be what I would miss if he died, or when he grows into a man and I look back on his childhood. What I would not miss, is him in a polished outfit from H&M intentionally purchased for a sunset field family photo shoot. Not even a little bit.I would miss his normal silly self that I see every day. The boy who cant resist being goofy and funny.Anyway, back to what I was saying :)The film came a few weeks later and I literally have no been the same since. I will never return to my former self. No matter how hard it is to attempt to grow a business that does not exist in 99% of people's minds (or google searches for that matter) I will never give up on this. Its too important. And I think 2020 solidified that.
The Photography Industry has changedThe photography industry has changed in several ways. Everyone can see that. Between phones that gloriously capture anything we want at any moment and photographers on every corner... its become a way of life and a convenience. The issue is that its also become something we take for granted, something on our to-do list, akin to our pile of dirty dishes. We have lost sight of the real intention behind using photography and video to capture our memories. We have lost the intention of what we want to capture, to hold on to, for someday....When I am filming a family. I am thinking about them when they are 60 years old and able to watch their films and look at their photos and remember as much as possible about their parenting journey, their children and their personalities. Their bonds as families, their laughter, their time spent together. The goal here goes far beyond checking off the to-do list and is aiming to literally freeze time and create a time capsule for the future. Talk to anyone who has lost their child or spouse, they will back me up on this. Talk to anyone over the age of 60 who has lived a lot of life. and they will tell you this is the most important investment.

Nashville Family Documentary Photographer | The Hartsfield's
This family is one of my favorites. They are so laid back and easy going. They have the most adorable laid back little girl. Im so blessed to have worked with them since she was pregnant with baby Kennedy. From her Maternity session, through the first year, and now into my film work, its been one big fun ride. The day was looking like it might rain and have lots of overcast. But it really brightened up and did not rain. It was so great spending a few hours watching them do their normal day to day activities, capturing the simple details of life that we often forget or take for granted. Many people feel their families are too boring for a day in the life photos+film session, but that is literally never true. Each family has its uniqueness and that is what is beautiful about these sessions. You can see that this family did nothing out of the ordinary, nothing extraordinary. They cooked, they ate, they played, they read, they nursed.I am booking 2019 Family Films and would love to film yours!Warmly,Hartsfield Family Film:Hartfsfield Family Film 2018 from Jennie Pyfferoen on Vimeo.Sneak Peek of images from their session :)
Franklin Baby Photographer + Filmmaker | Welcoming Mary Patton
On a day in mid May, Parker (aka Daddy) contacted me for a live family video for his baby on the way, expected to arrive in June. I happened to have a last minute opening. From the first contact, this family has been so special to me. They have trusted my vision, and it was an honor to photograph their first born.Mary Patton is the sweetest (with a tiny bit of sass) baby. Filming these two amazing parents loving on their newborn, comforting her cries, and nurturing her throughout the morning was soul filling. There is nothing like observing these firsts. Mary Patton's umbilical cord fell off the week leading up to the session, so we were also able to capture her first bath.No parents ever regret having a film made. This time is just too precious and short (and blurry). Its an investment that will give back to your hearts for years to come!P.S. Her Llama nursery was probably my favorite nursery of all time.Warmly, Welcoming Mary Patton from Jennie Pyfferoen on Vimeo.
Nashville Child Photographer | Avalee's Toddlerhood
Avalee is a typical 18 month old girl, but with more determination and will than most. She wanted to explore and run, and do what SHE wanted to do the entire session. Which works for me, since I don't do forced shoots. I just followed her around and found ways to capture her purely. It was so fun, and partially a hot mess. But we loved it regardless. I got some amazing shots, but wanted to show that her curly head is the predominate part of her body and from my perspective, plays a role in her personality.

Nashville documentary family photographer | Ruthie + Lucy
Jenn, a mother of 6, wanted some images to capture the time of her two youngest girls - as they are today, in all their raw glory. and we did just that! 3 year old Lucy really showed her true colors, and I laughed, a lot! Baby Ruthie is a super cute chunk who rolls with whatever is happening. I loved capturing these two.

Nashville Baby Photographer | Hall's Newborn Session + Film
Filming and Photographing Baby Hall was such a blessing. He had a kidney issue and was delivered early. We waited a little longer for the session, so here is 1 month old. His big sister is head over heels in love with him. And you can see vividly the love in this family. I LOVE their film, it captures this time so beautifully. These sessions are so laid back and sweet. I love being chosen to capture this. Its an honor and I enjoy all of it!

Nashville Baby Photographer | Welcoming Arlo
Baby Arlo is baby boy # 3 for this crew. Man did he make me want another! Scrumptious is the best descriptive word for this precious newborn. I loved capturing a day in the life film for this sweet family. Kelly cried watching it and says she will cherish it forever.

Nashville Baby Photographer | Ashton is One
Ashton turned one. Im so sad, because I just ADORE this family. Im sure I will see them each year, but still..... not seeing them every 3 months will be sad. Ashton is adorable as ever. He really performed for his photos and film this session. We had such fun and his personality really came through! The weather was perfect. It truly was one of those perfect days and sessions. The sunset was outstanding. The water was amazing to look at. It was just a very peaceful session. A great way to end a great year of baby milestones!Christine & Jason: It has been a HUGE honor to capture both of your children during their first year. I adore your family and look forward to future sessions. xoxoAshton's 12 Month Mini Film: Warmly,
Nashville Maternity Photographer | Hannah's Glorious Sunset Session
Hannah was the best maternity client ever. I truly feel this way after my maternity sessions, though! Women come to me and they are nervous! Its not easy to volunteer to show of your bump in front of the camera. To dress up and let someone capture you. Many women think it will be awkward. After the session, they go ON and ON about how fun it was and how surprised they were about how natural they felt. We truly have a blast and laugh the entire time! I had a wardrobe of dresses for my clients, and I love when clients wear Free People Dresses. No one ever regrets maternity photography! This night, Nashville had the most glorious sunset ever.

Nashville Baby Photographer | AJ's Newborn Session
AJ is such a peaceful sweet newborn boy. I photographed him at their home on a beautiful day in Nashville. It was a very quaint simple session, lots of emotive connection during the shoot. His big sister is absolutely smitten with him. I had such a wonderful time and my heart and soul were so happy leaving this in-home documentary shoot. I love capturing their real life. Connecting with them and giving them an emotional set of images that really tells a story. We chatted the entire time and really had a fun and laid back shoot!

Nashville Baby Photographer | Lealand's 12 Month Session
Lealand is one. Even as the photographer, I cannot believe how fast the first year goes. You just NEVER ever get it back. Even if its a really hard year, its a very important year that has the most dependence. The baby moments are so far and few between. They only snuggle for such a short time. They grow up and leave. I want Moms to remember their personality that first year, how they loved to eat dirt and hated touching grass. How they made this certain face when they were displeased.
Lealand has a very big voice and lots of opinions, and she in only ONE y'all. ONE. 13 year old Lealand should be interesting. I had fun capturing this time and cant wait to watch her grow into a spunky willful lady!

We had a blast playing games and capturing Enzo. Nashville has had the most amazing summer. And I have enjoyed ALL the baby sessions! Im looking forward to the coming months and seeing how what is in my head comes out through my work. I plan to really change things up!

Nashville Baby Photographer | Ingram's 1 Year Shoot
Ingram is ONE. I mean, they just grow so incredibly fast. The fussy days, the teething, and sleepless nights, just go by so fast. I love this time of year, when I have baby chicks at my house. Being able to use them for a few shoots is nice. He loved them and was very curious. I love watching babies analyze their surroundings, and take it all in.

Nashville Family Photographer | Day in the Life of the Jordan Family
5 years ago, my youngest was born. In hindsight, I think this was when my love for films/videography was born. I just did not know it yet. I had a videographer at my birth. To this day, when the song on my film begins to play, I tear up at the first note. When I shoot, I shoot to make people FEEL something. I don't wish to capture "things" like props and clutter etc. I want to capture EMOTION. I want to convey a feeling through imagery. This year, in January. Before I had even found the workshop I eventually attended. I KNEW in my heart, this year was going to be a year of drastic change for my work. Its happening and Im more excited than ever. This is one of my many Heights of my career - Im shifting - into more emotive, documentary work, with still some lifestyle portions too.Wondering what documentary is? and Lifestyle? Lifestyle portraits, they capture emotion but the photographer gives subtle cues. Where as posed portraits, are 100% directed by the photographer. Documentary - the photographer says nothing. she waits for things to happen. These don't usually happen outdoors. They happen inside the home and capture the raw moments. The in between moments we don't always see. The time the baby fell down on his knee and needed a bandaid. Those moments capture pure mommy hood. Pure childhood in their rawest forms. These really pull at my heart.A baby with a pacifier, seems so silly, but when captured just right, to me it speaks and tells an entire story about the time in the life when there was a little baby sucking on a paci. This time is FLEETING. We do not get it back.I definitely wrote more than I planned, and it was all from my heart. Please go check out my 3-4 min Film Capturing a Day in the life of the Jordan Family. A precious family who I have been working with for a few years. Who has 1 and 3 year old boys. This film made both parents cry. XoxoJordan Family Film:
Nashville Baby Photographer | Henry Joel's 12 Month Session
Henry Joel has been such a blessing and light for this sweet family. We enjoyed the weather on this beautiful Summer day in Tennessee and captured all of him! He has so much personality. That year went by so quickly. Mommies and Daddies just don't get this sweet time back. They grow up and life simply changes. I truly believe in capturing moments, emotions, and connection (rather than props and things).

Nashville Child Photographer | Chase's 3 Year Session
I always enjoy sessions with this family. Ive been photographing Chase since he was born. And its always been a blast. They have such a strong emotional connection.
