Nashville Newborn Photographer | The Smith Family welcomes baby #2
I just loved spending a fall morning with The Smith family, capturing them in their new life with baby #2, a boy. They have enjoyed their time with a newborn and their 4 year old, being out on their land with their chickens, in their kitchen drinking coffee together... life together raising a 4 year old sweet girl who just became a big sister - who loves to read and put on makeup and be with her parents and baby brother. This time with littles is so fleeting (and exhausting!) and I love being able to give my sweet families their memories of this time that can go by in a blur. If you want your family captured, I would LOVE to chat!

Yesterday, I spent a few hours in the afternoon after finishing this film in a space of deep deep gratitude. I spent years in the photography industry and had NO idea I was not yet at my calling. Knowing this is my calling gives me an indescribable feeling - the closest thing I can use to describe it is if you know what it feels like to be filled with the Holy Spirit. (Which I believe I am when I film). I cannot believe I am this talented (Which is hard for me to admit, I am definitely my own worst critic). I cannot believe that I get to do this for families. It is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen (family films) and the most beautiful thing I feel so incredibly honored to create. I feel so blessed.
I know, that was a lot of cheesy, but it's truly what is on my heart and I write what is on my heart.
I feel SO honored to film this beautiful family twice a year. This film is my best work so far. I love it and them so incredibly much. (Mushy aren't I?)
They love their kids immensely and play and laugh often. I love Meg's Pregnant belly as part of the story but not a bold declaration like in a maternity session. I love telling the story of each relationship in the family... so Meg and her baby girl and how connected they are... the season where she won't really go to anyone else often. The season of their son and dad being more bonded and how they horse around a lot. The season of just two kids before they add another... I cannot wait to film them this fall again with their third child.
Family photo sessions can be fun, relaxed AND super easy! Contact me and let's have the easiest session of your life!

Sometimes, when I write about families, I feel like a broken record. and I Think to myself, How can I say this differently? However, its almost impossible. But every word I write, is more than words to type into a blog or instagram post. The words come straight from my heart. I mean them immensely.
I have been this family's photographer for 5 years. I photographed Lauren and Miles when they were pregnant with their first, Kennedy. I took a hiatus for a small time while figuring out who I was as an artist when I was moving into films. I wrestled with the change and how to go about the change. It was an odd shift emotionally and mentally for me. But when I came back, Lauren was right there ready for more. So many amazing clients rolled with me from doing very posed lifestyle work right into documentary and family films. I think the credit goes to God, but regardless, I am SO grateful. I remember so many moments, wanting to quit and wondering how I would ever book clients when no one even knew to google about family films. (Thus, a miracle from God!) and now, in 2022, I was FULLY booked for 2022 by July 1.
Okay, enough of the rambles. I was HONORED and completely humbled to film this sweet family for the 4th time. I directed Lauren a little on this one. I looked back and saw there weren't films with many giggles, or intimate moments. I asked her to keep it SUPER simple and just focus on connection and sweet moments with her babies. The result was AMAZING.

Franklin Family Photographer | What is the purpose behind photography?
What is the purpose behind photography? When I googled this, here is what I found:"Essentially, the purpose of photography is to communicate and document moments in time. When you take a photograph and share it with others, you're showing a moment that was frozen through a picture. This moment can tell someone many things, from the environment to what people are doing." Credit: Portraits Refined.I also found Why do we need photography? "Images can keep the memory of a loved one alive, hold a moment in history for future generations, be a witness to tragedy or joy." Via Time.com
(Two sisters from a recent family session)I asked this question to my followers on IG and here are some of the replies I received:"To preserve memories""capture moments""To document""To take you back to another time, place and feeling""To Remember""To freeze a moment in time""To Capture the essence of today and preserve the memories for tomorrow""To tell a story" (thats a favorite!)"To remember the little things that fade in our memories"So we need to ask ourselves, as parents who hire photographers, and as photographers who's job it is to serve our clients best, are we doing this?I have made it my job to best serve my clients by mentoring them through this, helping them to see their future and what is going to come - and what they will miss. While I am VERY happy to capture clients in the fall on a quilt in the field for Christmas photos, that type of session is not accomplishing the above statements.
Spring Hill TN Family Photographer | Summer Fun
I spent a few hours with this crew to capture their summer. It was already hot, even in early May. But it was so fun. They connect so easily with their children. When I am photographing a family, I try to capture each parent with each kiddo, to isolate that specific connection within a family unit. My favorite images were one on one - because they had such a deep intimacy to them.
If you have ever studied artists, such as Picasso and Van Gogh, you know that they went through phases in their work. I find that this happens to photographers too. When my babies were little, I LOVED baby photography (still do) but as they grew, my work found its way into family photography, motherhood photography, and capturing childhood. My favorite images right now are truly candid family moments and mothers with their children. They speak to me and through me and I love it. Its such a special gift, to give mothers the moments they see, and even moments they may not see.
I want to capture your life not for you for right now, but more for the you in 20, 40, 60 years. And not just for you, but for your children. I want to freeze your family’s journey right now and let you have it forever. I’m not just the photographer. I’m the memory mentor in your family.

Franklin TN Newborn Photographer | Meaningful Memories
I first met Malary back in 2011, when she hired me to capture her first pregnancy. I instantly fell for her. She's not only stunning, but is kind and warm and loves being pregnant and having babies. She has since had 4 babies and I have been her photographer (and now videographer) for all 4! Her boys are all so well behaved and love "Miss Jennie" - I know her family and I have a bond that will carry on for years. Our sessions have always been fun and amazing, occasionally a tad wild - and they have always been filled with connection and love. She's an ideal client for having a family film and I have been trying to convince her of this for a few years. But it's hard for clients to imagine their families in films. They think they aren't interesting enough, or their kids aren't going to behave. When in reality, I have so many clips of it all that I can pick and choose from, that even if there were moments that weren't ideal, I can just skip those..... Anyway, Im rambling - but for her most recent newborn baby boy, I was able to do a film for them. She now says that she "cant not have films" because she gets it. Mothers and Fathers cant foresee what a film will give them - but once you've had your family filmed, its something you'll want to repeat. There are just too many amazing moments that film and video capture in a unique way compared to photos. (By the way, film sessions also come with photos, so you don't have to choose). Here is their family film, welcoming Asher into their family.
Warmly,Jennie

I really have the best job - baby and family photographer - living in Nashville and Franklin - I just cannot get enough. This family - working with them since they were pregnant with their first daughter - its all been the absolute best feeling capturing them as a family as they have transformed into what they exist as today. How much they love these girls, is obvious. If you want your family captured, contact me here!
What draws me into my photography work - the art behind it - is motherhood - even parenthood. I see my clients through my lens as a mother. I see daddy with his baby or child and I look at that intimate moment as a mother myself. As a mother who sees her own husband bond with our children - and it allows me to capture this deep connection - which also comes from bonding with the family, telling their own unique story as well.
When I see the sweet baby sitting there, I think of my two boys - who are 7 &10 - and I cherish the facial expressions, the tiny hands holding onto one another, the grump faces, the chunky baby rolls and sweet look of awe in their little faces.... I see who my children used to be and who this child is - and it allows me to capture this child in all of her adorableness and her own sweet personality as she exists today. Because we know she will grow, and change. and that change will bring good and bad. Its sad watching them grow, but also exciting and new and fun. Watching your child grow up is like watching them slowly leave your heart. Yes, mommies and their babies will always be close. But that closeness changes. and it does sting, just a little.

Documentary Photography is a style in which Im pretty much a fly on the wall. I capture the family's REAL life, their life as it is at this very moment. These are the images that will make someone cry. They capture the essence of a family and their connection. This family was full of really great connection and moments. I truly had a blast. Their baby is about 6 months old and he is crawling and happy. I hope to capture more families in their homes. Its so special.
If you want your baby filmed, contact me here!
