Franklin, TN In-Home Family Photography | The Swope Family Film
Spending the morning with the Swope Family was so inspiring. Im in awe of their ability to have both parents home and have a large presence in their children’s lives. This is one of the most connected families I have ever filmed.
Their love and bond are so evident when you’re able observe it. The way they all interact with a calm and patience with one another is the proof of their hard work and dedication to be the most intentional parents.
I know in 20 years, this video and any future films I make of their family will be the most powerful thing they own.
The day was absolutely perfect. The weather was calm and enjoyable - a precious spring day on their land in Primm Springs, just outside of both Fairview, TN and Franklin, TN. They have the most adorable white modern home. They have gorgeous large windows with no screens like I see often in family films made in Australia. They have really high ceilings and gorgeous tall cabinets. Their home is 100% drool worthy. You don't need a nice home to have a family film. My client's homes vary widely - and I love that. I am one who can admire the most extravagant home and the cozier smaller home as well (I prefer the smaller cozier for myself).
It was awesome seeing Forest grow so much since his newborn session last fall. He has gotten even cuter and so big. He always has the biggest smile on his face.
I love that my clientele is very diverse. All body sizes, skin colors, and income levels hire me. They do all tend to be more intentional in their parenting though - that I have noticed.
As I edited this film, I wanted to recreate the dreaminess that their life is - its what it feels like when you are with them. Like they're living out this dream of being at home in the country with their 3 children... homeschooling and raising really good humans with big hearts.
My favorite scenes were when dad was dancing with his girls. I felt so much emotion watching them dance, thinking, someday, he will dance with each of them on their wedding day.

Franklin Family Photographer | What is the purpose behind photography?
What is the purpose behind photography? When I googled this, here is what I found:"Essentially, the purpose of photography is to communicate and document moments in time. When you take a photograph and share it with others, you're showing a moment that was frozen through a picture. This moment can tell someone many things, from the environment to what people are doing." Credit: Portraits Refined.I also found Why do we need photography? "Images can keep the memory of a loved one alive, hold a moment in history for future generations, be a witness to tragedy or joy." Via Time.com
(Two sisters from a recent family session)I asked this question to my followers on IG and here are some of the replies I received:"To preserve memories""capture moments""To document""To take you back to another time, place and feeling""To Remember""To freeze a moment in time""To Capture the essence of today and preserve the memories for tomorrow""To tell a story" (thats a favorite!)"To remember the little things that fade in our memories"So we need to ask ourselves, as parents who hire photographers, and as photographers who's job it is to serve our clients best, are we doing this?I have made it my job to best serve my clients by mentoring them through this, helping them to see their future and what is going to come - and what they will miss. While I am VERY happy to capture clients in the fall on a quilt in the field for Christmas photos, that type of session is not accomplishing the above statements.
Franklin Documentary Family Photographer | A Day With The Lush Boys
I say it a lot, but that is because its true. Photographing a family for MANY years, its SO special. These boys, I have photographed when their momma was pregnant with them. We did 3 maternity sessions and 3 first year photo sessions - newborn and up! This year we did something different. An in-home day in the life type session. I have seen them move a few times in the franklin area. Their new Tennessee home is an amazing modern farm house, so a session there was just wonderful. We spent a few hours capturing the kiddos catching tadpoles, riding bikes, working on activities, and even dancing. I love documentary because it captures their personalities naturally. In every family, there is a muse. The youngest boy in this family is for sure suffering from 3rd child syndrome, being all kinds of naughty, which made for an excellent session. HAHAH!

Documentary Photography is a style in which Im pretty much a fly on the wall. I capture the family's REAL life, their life as it is at this very moment. These are the images that will make someone cry. They capture the essence of a family and their connection. This family was full of really great connection and moments. I truly had a blast. Their baby is about 6 months old and he is crawling and happy. I hope to capture more families in their homes. Its so special.

Nashville Child Photographer | Quill's 3 Year Old Garden Shoot
Quill is 3! I remember photographing her back when I had a newborn portrait studio in Nashville. Quill is all spunk and was born on the bathroom floor by accident. She will make an amazing female adult, but in the meantime, makes for a fun child to parent ;) she is my best friend's daughter and we wanted to capture her in her true form. Quill loves her chickens and garden. She and her momma garden together almost daily on their homestead. This day was SO incredibly hot, the most I had sweat all summer. But it was a blast chasing Quilly Loo around!

Nashville Baby Photographer | Rowan turns 1!
Baby Rowan is the 3rd boy of this family - and Ive photographed all 3! I love them all to pieces, they know me well "Miss Jennie" and they look forward to their session. I may or may not bribe them with organic Gummies ;) But, they never complain about sessions!
They all loved the water, obviously! They were drenched by the end. But thats how I like my sessions: real and fun.

Nashville Baby Photographer | Harper's Musical Lifestyle Session
I have truly enjoyed working with Jacky, capturing her pregnancy and her newborn baby girl, Harper! We had so much fun and I just love making a session personable, using the home's environment to tie in the uniqueness of that particular family. Since Jacky is a singer, she had lots of creative aspects to her home that matched this part of her heart. I know she will treasure these images for years to come!
