Nashville Birth Videography and Photography | The Birth of Iris Ailene

I first met Sydney in the summer of 2025, she was due to have her baby in December. Like usual, I fell hard for this sweet family and just so honored to be asked to capture such a special and vulnerable time in their lives. Also, her previous delivery was a c-section due to a breech positioning, so she was planning a home VBAC with Lily Birth Collaborative. This was also going to be a rainbow baby for this sweet mama πŸ₯Ή so, there were a lot of emotions going into this precious birth.

I received the call to head to her birth around 1 something in the morning of December 14th. Her doula (Lauren Glass of Steadfast Birth) and mama were working hard on contractions when I arrived. I would pop in and out and film and photograph snippets, allowing her some time to just labor without too many people. She was doing well though and unbothered.

After many hours, I think around 10 am - 2 pm window, we were starting to wonder why things weren’t progressing as much. She was altering positions as best as she could and given an IV of fluids to see if that helped. But in the afternoon, the choice was made to transfer. Her back labor was so intense it was preventing her from being able to position herself so baby could dilate her further. Basically, she was stuck at an 8. We would find out why, once baby made an entrance. We transferred midwife to midwife, peacefully to Stonecrest in Smyrna. I was with this momma for 22 hours, the longest I have ever been at a birth. I was so grateful when the midwife came back in and said she was complete, because I knew I was hitting a wall soon.

Here is the review Sydney left on google reflecting on hiring me to film and photograph her birth:

β€œWhen I met Jennie I knew immediately I wanted to have her apart of our birth team. Her energy was supportive, encouraging and genuine to the point we joked by the end of the birth calling her the back up doula. There were so many moments she captured that I was like β€œI hope she got that!” .. because I remember her in my ear cheering me on rather than remembering a camera being in my face. She is so passionate and intentional in her work to make sure you relive every moment. Being able to do that is truly so healing and something I will cherish forever. We are endlessly grateful for her!”

Enjoy watching the story play out in this beautiful birth film. My favorite moment from his birth comes at the end, after my logo… we all just started worshipping simultaneously and it was just the most holy moment. If you are pondering having your birth filmed, please get in touch with me!
