Nashville Newborn Photography | The Benjamin Family

I have known this family for a handful of years. They are always such joy to be in the presence of. I know they have wanted another baby for some time and that the journey to this point hasn’t been easy for them. So when they asked me to photograph their family with their new baby, I was thrilled to fit them into my schedule. They have such a beautiful family of all girls - adopted and biological - and the story of it all is so sweet.

Prioritizing photos when you have a new baby can be hard and overwhelming. The cost might be a stretch and you might feel overwhelmed with all of the new level of responsibility. But I think it’s one of those things you just do anyway. Because later, you won’t miss the money and you won’t be so overwhelmed and having the photos (and maybe even video too) to look back on will be one of those things your future self will be SO glad you did.

I went to their home to photograph them on a Sunday. Mom had had swollen feet, we were praying that would go away by the day of the shoot. We also wanted it to be sunny. It was wintertime, and it can be quite dreary some days in the winter in the south, making it too dark to shoot indoors. But we had answered prayers: her swelling went down and the sun literally came out as we began to shoot.

Capturing this family, I wanted them to remember the deep sense of gratitude they were feeling after a long journey to get to this point in their lives. I wanted them to feel the love each of them had for the baby and for one another. I wanted to tell the story of how the older 4 daughters helped so much with mom’s recovery and caring for baby. And also how Dad was the anchor in all of it.
