Nashville Family Photographer + Filmmaker | The Douglass Family
Getting to film his sweet family and their rhythm together is such a blessing. This was our 2nd film together and it went just as beautifully as the first. I connect with this family because they homeschool and we do too. I love watching them crack jokes together, play games, jump and play…. making sourdough and even running out into the rain! Which I have never had happen in a session before.
Having your family filmed is something you will never regret, I promise you. You’ll watch it back over and over. Years later, it becomes increasingly valuable to you. Your kids will want to watch it and I even have some clients’ kiddos that go to bed with their little video albums (after 3 family films, I gift them one). It is so powerful to show your kids that their daily life is SO good and worth living. Give them evidence of the love and laughter and good times. Someday, they may cling to them. I would love to connect with you about filming your family!

Nashville Family Photographer | Fall Family Photos …but your real memories
All around Nashville, every year, thousands of residents seek having their fall family photos taken. Get in and get out, get the wardrobe, the location, the light and box checked.
But I have grown to see over the years that these photos don’t really give us our memories. In fact, they become a place holder for where our memories should be.
Fall Family shoots are about the clothing you wore, the light, the field you sat in.
But in-home documentary sessions are about your real life moments unfolding and letting me - as a fly on the wall - capture those and tell that story back to you.
The Myers Family had their family shoot at home in October. The leaves had just begun to change and the temperatures were a touch cooler. They had mums and pumpkins to decorate their front and back yards with and so that was a huge part of their photo shoot. They also love Fall bonfires. This was the absolute perfect fall family shoot! It captured their real life of juggling two boys while doing home projects on the weekends. Letting the older son help. Taking breaks to nurse… all part of their typical days in this season.
There truly is magic in our everyday… and it’s not in the big moments, but truly these micro moments in the in between. The ones that are harder to see because we’re in the depths of parenting. Capturing those, gives us this beautiful incredible keepsake that is unlike any other. For your next round of fall photos, holler at me and let’s tell your real fall family story.
Nashville Family Photographer | 5 Reasons to get a family film
- To remember your children in the season they are in now. But it is not just about remembering your children, it’s also about your children’s memories as they grow.
2. You deserve to be in the frame too. Someone has to be behind the camera, and as a result, someone is missing from the family album and family movies. I’m giving you the ability to slow down and connect as a family. To unplug and reset. I will show you the moments that you didn’t even know you needed to see.
3. Your film becomes the thing that you treasure most.
4. Your film feels like stepping into a memory of your family's story as you are right now. A time capsule for you to treasure forever.
5. You never know what tomorrow holds. We are not promised forever. and at the end of our lives, we will not wish for more money or things, we will wish for more time. When our loved ones pass, we hold on to them through photos and videos.
Nashville Family Filmmaker and Photographer | Why you should get a family film
Some people are adults, who now have family movies from their childhood. They watch them and recall their childhood. This is especially wonderful if a family member has passed away. To be able to go back in time, quite literally. Maybe on the video, we see how mom would snuggle little Ethan, or kiss Hannah's boo-boos. We see how Dad would play catch in the front yard on Thanksgiving with Tony, or how the cousins would always have pie fights.
But now, in 2018, we are lacking this, a lot. Unless its a video that comes up from years passed on Facebook, we don't have these videos of childhood to recall in the future. Having the annual Christmas Card or Fall family shoot is great and all, but is this truly capturing time? Is this really meaningful? Is it the actual meaning behind what photography was intended for?
I got married in 2006, so it was not a common thing to video the wedding. At the last minute, someone asked to take a candid video with a handheld camcorder. and I said yes, absolutely. That day was the last day I saw my mother. My mother died 3 weeks after my wedding.
When the end happens, I want to have as few regrets as possible. And when social media is gone and all of life's chaos is stripped away, when were saying our goodbyes, I know that what will truly be missed, is the moments. Not the posed ones in the field for the annual family shoot, but the everyday boo-boos and games, the naughty child who sprayed the sink with shaving cream, the way little Roman would giggle every single time his daddy played peek-a-boo. The way daddy would blow raspberries at bed time, or the teeth brushing chaos of having 5 children. The TRUE purpose behind photography is to remember THE MOMENTS. To capture the facial expression, the emotional connection, and the personalities. To tell YOUR FAMILY'S Story of today.
Some people think their family isn't interesting enough for a film. That could not be further from the truth. EVERY family is worthy of being honored with film and photos of their true selves! Everyone is beautifully IMPERFECT. Just as we were made. Just as we are.
In the end, it wont be the posed yearly photo we grab at. It will be the videos, so we can hear his laughter that we haven't heard in years. It will be our favorite image capturing a moment in time that told the story of love and connection.

Nashville Baby Photographer | Kinsley 12 Months
Baby Kinsley is so big! I cant believe she is ONE! She is so sweet and angelic. She has the most precious face. She has been ill and we have had to reschedule several times. But we finally made it happen! She was tired at the end and we got to grab some sweet shots of her sleeping. Again, she is just angelic!

Its January and the weather is bitter cold, even in Tennessee. It may snow today, they're not sure. If it did, technically, it would be our 2nd snow, but the first snow, I think I saw all of 3 flakes :)
We've been inside and outside and enjoying all things winter. Greyson has been really into painting. I let him do it whilst I homeschool my older son, Atticus.
