Sweet Benjamin arrived earthside in his home on a gorgeous October day. Im so happy his momma had her home birth. While I was not there to capture her home birth, we did have a newborn photo and video session lined up.

I loved spending a few hours with these two. Back in September, I captured Rachel's Maternity Session. I have fallen in love with Rachel as a person, as a pregnant mother and now a mother of a newborn. Her heart is pure and her love is deep for Benjamin. She's a single momma determined to give Benjamin everything she can. She has an amazing support system and has a miracle job that has allowed her to work and be with her baby.

We are all praying for Rachel and Benjamin on the daily. That they have a peaceful first year together, filled with love and low stress. We see how bonded these two are and all of us are surrounding Rachel to help support her bond and needs as they come up. Im so happy breastfeeding has gone well too (despite a tie revision).

Im excited to see Rachel and Benjamin have their first Christmas together as mother and son. He has already grown so much and I cant wait to watch him grow even more over the next year. Reach out to me to get your family photographed.

Travel Family Photographer | The Howard Family

Months ago, Sadiee (who has followed me for like 10 years!) reached out for a family film and photography session. She wanted me to travel 10 hours to her home in Tampa Bay, Florida, and spend a few hours capturing her family. I was so excited! It is my first time being hired to travel to capture a family and its something I would love to do a few times a year, between births.Marcus Family Film:The week leading up to her session, I practiced mindfulness to keep my creativity going through the stress of travel and the pressure of creating a film in 3 hours and not being able to reschedule. Its a lot of pressure - one Im sure wedding videographers are well aware of. You can't really re-do it, so things need to work well! Sadiee emailed  me a review about her family's experience being videoed and photographed by me. "I've been following Jennie's photography on social media since before I even had kids. I've always looked up to Jennie as a photographer and just as a human in general! Her style of photography always seemed to capture more than your typical photo. Over the years, I've watched her style evolve into something I can only describe as magical. The way Jennie documents families is truly priceless. I knew I had to hire her to capture our little family of four. This was an investment that my husband and I worked together to budget and made a priority purchase, and I'm so glad we did! The session itself was the most laid-back session I've ever experienced. The idea of having someone come into your home to take pictures of everyday life can be somewhat daunting, but Jennie just rolled with our chaos, and with a three & four-year-old, there is never a shortage of chaos. There was never pressure to get 'the photo.' We were able just to be ourselves. Jennie truly was there to capture us as us without any judgment for how the day unfolded.I cannot express how grateful I am for how much Jennie poured herself into capturing our family. She captured our everyday moments that are often looked pasted, but I'll miss these the most when I look back at raising toddlers. Life can be fast-paced and overwhelming with kids. Sometimes I don't even realize how fast they grow until I look back at old photos and videos. She captured all the little things that make our family who we are, from cooking breakfast together, reading books, and an afternoon swim. We have already booked our family film for next year, and I'm not going to lie, I am already emotional about how much my babies will change when she captures them next.Thank you, Jennie. You truly are one of a kind, and I'll never be able to thank you enough for what you captured for us. This session is truly a family heirloom, and we can't wait to see you again next year! " The day was absolutely magical. This was by far, my favorite family session to date. I will tell you why. They never were stressed by children's behavior. They just let things be as they were. They were the most chill family I have ever had and that is the key to an amazing session. They had the most entertaining breakfast. So much laughter and conversation. I love how they're all standing in the kitchen making breakfast together (their own Saturday ritual). After breakfast, Marcus and his kiddos rough house - which is their norm. and I was there for it! So many giggles and fun moments captured. So authentic! I rarely see rough housing during films in America. I watch many film makers in Australia capture this often. Franklin Tennessee Maternity Photographer | Meaningful storytelling

Hi friend. Im going to be REALLY honest with you.Since becoming a family film maker and diving into documentary work, I have struggled with what to do with maternity sessions. Maternity sessions have become more about trends and dresses and the look than about the person being photographed. They’ve lost meaning. They don’t tell a story other than “this was the trend in 2021”I cannot tell one maternity photographer from another, they all use gorgeous dresses at sunset. Don't get me wrong, I support these amazing photographers and what they do. Their clients are loved well. But I do want to talk from my own perspective of why are we doing what we are doing? What is the purpose of this? What will we think of this in 10 years?I’m just being honest and telling my personal viewpoint. I offered trendy maternity sessions for years. I even provided the dresses. Until one day, I realized that I wasn’t actually serving my clients well. I now see myself as their memory mentor ? helping them see the meaning behind their sessions. The session isn’t just about a pregnant mother. It’s about the story of who this mother is and how their child will be able to go back years later and see who their mom was when she was pregnant with them. If I had photos of my mom, she’d be smoking in 1982 and pregnant. What a story that would tell! This sweet momma and I had so much fun capturing her pregnancy. She’s a holistic health coach and has had the most nourishing pregnancy. She spends a lot of time in her kitchen cooking and making bone broth. Her skin always looks so amazing. Her smile is always radiant. She’s so happy and kind and sweet. She’s spent her pregnancy getting plenty of sunshine and movement as well as taking Epsom salt baths, writing in her pregnancy journal and rocking in her rocker. We wanted to tell that story. So that a decade or two from now, her baby will see how momma cared for herself when she was carrying the child in the womb.  Now to find out if it’s a boy or a girl!  ???Happy Fall - Enjoy this gorgeous weather friends!xoxo

Nashville Family Photographer | Documentary Day in the Life {The Chu Family}

Once you shoot documentary, you want nothing else. Gone is the facade and in comes the REAL and RAW. I am completely obsessed, and my client is in LOVE too. Remembering her early years of coloring, daddy putting pig tails in her hair, eating raisins, and running about. Those are the moments that we cant get back. Her sassy smirks and love of all things pink. Her spunk and giggles, those  - are the memories worth keeping. In 2018, I will be doing MORE of this. and less of the directed, posed, even lifestyle (still directed to some degree) work. More films, more REAL moments. xoxo
